Thank you for all your valuable feedback on the shelf! Seeing the many creative ways you've been using this new block, we've decided to revert the recent change that positioned items at the bottom of the shelf, as we agree that having the items centered provides more creative opportunities when building.

The possibilities possible with 25w31a shelves are a lot bigger for aesthetic and technical opportunities than 32a shelves.

This is also much harder to see which item is in which slot so will make players less likely to use the hotbar swapping function with this smaller item design

Agree that it looks better vertically centered, more consistent, creates more building/detail possibilities; likewise it also mirrors the other purpose of the shelf as a hotbar swapper, since inventory items are centered within their frame as well.

Nah, just add some detailing to the top of the shelfs and make the items bigger. The items actually sitting on the shelfs looks way better

Besides this change, items/blocks placed on shelves need to appear larger like how it looks on bedrock edition. There are so many cool detailing tricks with shelves that simply aren't possible in the current snapshots because the item is either too small or (since 32a) placed awkwardly

I and a lot of people online agree, horrible change made by the devs. Nearly every design that utilized items within shelves as detail has been screwed. Not only is this change aesthetically displeasing, it hinders the intended purpose of the shelf. I hope they revert this change and give us back the better shelves.

It definitely looks better in the middle rather than at the very bottom, kind of hard to see, tbh

I dont think that keeping the new design is a bad idea, i like the item to be touching the shelf instead of floating around on the center, mabye just make the item big as the shelf's space so its more visible, you cant even see the item in the shelf from 3 blocks away.

I think it would be better to make top, middle, and bottom toggeable

My opinion on the shelf design has changed a bit. Some of the designs players have come up with, like using banners to create letters, are absolutely brilliant and work perfectly with the current shelf block. These creative uses show the potential of the block for aesthetic builds and clever design tricks.

That said, it’s hard to ignore that having the item floating in the center of the block doesn’t really make sense visually. It breaks immersion, especially in builds where realism or visual consistency matters. And when the item is placed at the bottom of the block instead, the overall appearance feels less harmonious. It gives the impression that something is missing or off-balance, especially when viewed from a few blocks away.

I believe that the current style of the shelf no longer fully fits the way players want to use it. So there are really two options: either we stick with the old system, where the item floated in the center, because it looked good and worked well with certain build hacks, or we redesign the shelf block entirely to make it look good with the item placed on the bottom.

A visual redesign of the shelf could help make the new item placement feel more intentional and cohesive. That way, the shelf would look natural and appealing again, and it would continue to support both creative and functional uses in builds.

It looks ugly, I'm not a huge fan of it personally.

It also makes more sense for the items to be centered since it's consistent with the way Item Frames display their items.

The new version makes more sense I guess, but we lost so much detailing potential. You can’t do smaller detailing, cabinet handles, signs with banners, none of that. They need to revert this change. They even look worse as shelves, you can’t see the items as well. Really hope they revert this. Other than this change though, this is a banger snapshot.

The new design makes the items way to small and un-focused for a block made specifically for showing off items. Bring back the 25w31a shelves!

If they want a realistic excuse for the way that the shelf is, then they can simply make the excuse that the items are on a hook. You see the same thing everywhere in shops in real life, so they can imagine it the same way for the shelf in-game.

why don't we just make the items bigger? as a builder, the banner letters are awsome, but I much prefer them resting on the ground. why don't they just keep the same size and shift them down a bit, best of both worlds :D

I think at the very least banners should be reverted. It was so cool to have unique decorated signs, and they were already basically resting on the bottom of the shelf before the change.

Please change the item placement back. i get what the new placement was going for. But for the sake of creativity and decoration sakes it just doesn't really work too well. Please don't let this be a copper bulb situation and just please revert the change.

The older shelf placement (centered and bigger items) allowed for much more creative building possibilities and was easier on the eyes. It was also consistent with the placement in item frames

They should really let you either place the item on the top, bottom, or center, with the bottom placement being how it is now, the center placement being the old one, and the top placement being something new.

Please Mojang, make them consistently big, seeable, and center, in both Java and Bedrock editions, it would benefit builders a lot.

The first iteration was PERFECT, it allows shelves to act like invisible item frames all it needs ia to make the display items be bigger

The old items on the sign looked sooooo much better, please consider reverting it Mojang, this is one of the best building tools we've been given in years, I don't wanna see it so nerfed.
