The ability to shear crops to stop them from growing

It would be cool to shear crops like wheat and carrots, as well as other growing plants like sweet berries. Shearing these plants would keep them in a single state permanently (perhaps unless bone meal is used). This ability would be similar to how grow berry vines and nether vines can be sheared to stop them from growing downwards/upwards.
