In real life, axolotls are neotenic forms of salamanders — they remain in a juvenile state for life but can transform into their adult form under specific environmental conditions.
Some users have already suggested adding salamanders as separate mobs or visual reworks. However, this idea is different — it's about adding a new gameplay mechanic where an axolotl can *evolve* into a salamander under certain conditions.
For example, if an axolotl enters specific dry biomes like badlands, desert, or savanna — or is exposed to a special item — it could gradually transform into a salamander with slightly different behavior or abilities (e.g., better heat resistance, new reactions to players or mobs).
This would:
- Give an existing mob new gameplay depth.
- Introduce a light but meaningful evolutionary mechanic.
- Fit naturally alongside recent visual updates (biome-based mob textures).
- Encourage exploration and experimentation.
It would not replace the axolotl, but expand its possibilities — turning a passive pet-like creature into something with a dynamic lifecycle.
Thanks for considering this idea!
