The new Copper tools, weapons, and armor are welcome additions. They are new uses for the ore and are another early-game-friendly material.
However, I would be lying if I said they didn't feel a little samey; a little repetitive. I know these items were just introduced, but I can't say I feel like much will be done with them. The Copper items are very similar to the existing tools and weapons, so much so I feel it would be a neat idea to introduce a new modification system to differentiate them from the other tools.
You may be familiar with the Tinkers' Construct mod. This new system could serve as a rudimentary, copper-only modification system similar to the one in that mod (albeit much less in-depth) that makes it worthwhile for the average Minecraft player to craft Copper tools and weapons later on in their worlds.
This could be done with additions to the Smithing Table, or with a new functional block. I should note this system should be distinctly different from enchantments, as well as should complement copper's qualities as a metal.
Some examples:
Placing a Copper Pickaxe into a Smithing Table with a specific item (Lightning Rod?) makes the pickaxe attract mined blocks to you.
Placing a Copper Sword into a Smithing Table with a specific item makes the sword shock your opponent and nearby enemies. ("Electrify" effect for damage over time?)
Copper tools are useful early game, and an addition like this has the potential to keep them useful as you continue playing your world.
