WIth the Fall update focusing on copper-related features, I think a new rail block would be a nice addition. The Copper Rail serves more specialized role than the Iron Rail.
Similiarities:
- Functions like a standart rail: allows minecarts to travel aling them.
- Can connect to other rail types (iron rails, detector rails, etc.).
Differences:
- Crafted using copper instead of iron
- Minecart speed is 80% slower than on iron rails.
- Speed of minecarts decrease from with oxidation levels: 80% (regular), 60% (exposed), 40% (weathered), 20%( Oxidized) based on iron rail speed. This allows for more minigame options as well as more precise speeds for redstone builds that rely on rail speed.
- Can be waxxed to preserve the required oxidation level.
Optional: Iron Rails could be speed up as they no longer are needed to be slow enough so that hoppers pull items from them.
Why does this block matter?
Copper Rails give players finer control over minecart movement. Wether you're building a timed redstone machine, mini-game, or some decorative builds like a museum, variable-speed rails unlock a creative potential that current rail types can't offer, while at the same time free the regular rail to focus on being a transportation block only. The oxidation mechanic fitts right into the theme of copper, adds A LOT of functionality and player controll while respecting the tier progression that iron is "better" (faster).
