minecraft 1.20.1 have option to have sprite folder

i want to make a animated crosshair but make crosshair on icon.png is too hard and easy to mess up i want to bring sprite folder feature on 1.20.2 to 1.20.1 so i can just drop crosshair.png in it and dont have to waste time edit the icon.png
