I believe Minecraft's trident should be able to utilize the same custommodel system any other item can, including for it's entity. Tridents can't *exactly* be a custom-model as their entity is custom, so even if one were to attach a custom-model string to a trident item, the thrown trident wouldn't be the same as the trident in the user's hand
I think for this reason, there should be some sort of way the trident entity can have the same model as the trident item in the player's hand, or even it's own "entity_model" string/data if necessary. I think this could benefit Minecraft, especially for creators as people previously have wanted to make their own custom tridents, and may benefit server creators by allowing them more flexibility with the looks of a throwable trident, allowing them to make it any model they wish.
