Adding a new gamerule called canSpectatorsTravelThroughBlocks would allow server administrators to prevent spectators from flying through solid blocks, restricting them from accessing unauthorized areas. This would significantly improve security in multiplayer environments where certain areas should remain private.
The ability to disable the hotbar while in spectator mode. This would create a cleaner viewing experience by removing the hotbar when it's not needed, reducing visual clutter.
Allowing certain players to be marked as "non-spectatable." This would mean their player heads wouldn't appear in the spectator selection interface at all, providing privacy for players who shouldn't be followed or observed during specific game scenarios or events.
Rather than using the limited hotbar for player selection, why not use the player's inventory or custom GUI? The full inventory screen could serve as a more spacious and organized interface for spectator controls, including speed controls. This expanded area would accommodate more player heads and allow for a more intuitive layout of spectator functions, making the entire system more user-friendly and less cramped.
A pagination system with forward and back navigation arrows within the inventory screen would make browsing through available players much more manageable. This would eliminate the current limitations on how many players can be viewed at once and provide a smoother experience when selecting which player to spectate.
