As much as I hate the prospect of losing something that you payed for - add a system where java usernames taken by people can be overwrote if the account is inactive for X amount of time (probably atleast 6+ months to a few years of straight inactivity).
Many accounts have been owned for 10+ years, and are completely ghosted and inactive. Additionally, many are being sold off on third party websites - against terms of service (although this situation would still happen pretty much no matter what, it stops people hoarding hundreds of rare/cool account names).
Obviously there is no objectively perfect way to deal with either of these situations, but should "rare" or specific usernames consisting of one word or so just be locked away to people who haven't logged on for years?
Usernames on java are one of the most defining parts of a user, and many different key words are permanently locked - with no way of even contacting an account owner to maybe shift their name.
I don't have a direct suggestion for a solution besides just setting inactive accounts to some sort of empty/placeholder name (randomized characters or something), but shouldn't the active community be able to utilize actually interesting names rather than have them remain barren.
