I know there already are quite a few suggestions for something like this, so here is my version.
You take the lightning rod crafting recipe, and add honeycomb to get a waxed variant which texture connects to the rod version; a similar bounding box, but extended to make a full length block in one dimension (much like how iron chains work). Lightning current can pass through the long edges, much like regular unwaxed copper blocks would, but the other sides are insulated. And ofcourse you can place it in all dimensions (xyz).
This would complete the lightning redirection theme, which has been started by the implementation of the lightning rod, and it would enable players to further compact copper designs. For example, this would make it possible to get fully oxidated copper roofs alongside a lightning rod system without having to wax every block. Also, exposed copper wire looks tight.
