Expounding on how crops are grown. Carrots and potatoes for example really couldn't care less about how many nutrients are in the soil they grow in. In fact, they like it sandy and sad. So, firstly, you shouldn't be able to bonemeal them, and secondly, with the different soils idea, maybe they grow better in course dirt or something of that sort. We have the blocks to make growing crops more realistic/educational *wink*, just need to make them plowable.

And also, working how plants reproduce irl into the game a little more would be cool. For example, carrots are diurnal crops, they grow the first year, and then flower. So, while they are harvestable the first year, and you can replant the tops after you eat them to have them grow again (and then I think they flower, even if it's the same year)
But when you replant them, you only get as many carrots as tops as you replant, so you can't get more carrots that way.

So, easy solution, made better with a seasons update (perhaps in the same update) is to add another growth stage to plants that reproduce by flowering like carrots. If you want to increase how many carrots (or similar plant) you have, you have to wait the additional time for it to flower, and then you use, say shears, to get seeds, in this case, carrot seeds.

Of course, with potatoes, you can cut up one potato into wedges and replant it, getting more potatoes, so the current reproduction methods for some plants is perfectly fine
