This shouldn't be told in-game, but make it something the player must figure out. To give more lore to Minecraft, we should give more depth to the end concept. The End isn't just a name for a dimension. The dimension didn't even use to be called The End. The End represents the corruption that consumes the world. When a dimension is corrupted by the end, it ends. This means that lore-wise, the world (all the dimensions) are ending, with the 3rd one that I'll call "The Avelete" already ended, explaining why The Avelete is now called The End, and why endermen are in all 3 dimensions. The ending of life is powered by the Endlord.
For additional lore, there should be themes about life after death, that the end is the beginning for new life. In the end, you would see small, but stunning biomes full of vegetation to send that message. It also gives players something to think about. "Is it good that I killed the Endlord. Yes, I saved my world from ending, but were there good intentions to end a world and reincarnate?" I hope this post leaves any influence at Mojang.
