Just as bee hives generate randomly on trees, bird nests should do the same, with players allowed to make bird houses of their preferred wood type. Bird nests could also have a radius of where ambient chirping sound is played but active only during daylight. At night, depending on the biome, crow or owl sounds could play.

To narrow down what birds to add 1st, they should possess some mechanic and be unique to a biome.

*Woodpeckers for Taiga biomes. Could be tamed w/spider eye. When cutting wood, it would pick up logs, saplings, & sticks for you.

*Kingfisher (MY FAVORITE BIRD): would spawn near rivers or mangrove swamps, occasionally swoop down like a mini phantom or allay & kill salmon. Tamed with salmon; would pick up any fish while fishing, both item & mob. (pulling fish w/fishing rod would send it to catch it mid-air & drop it next to you, hitting fish, it would help attacking it) Would also help kill squids & pick up inksacs.

Quetzalcoatl is in serious danger, this species should be added as a very hard to find, and give an achievement if you can find and breed them, and this can give more life to jungles.

Obviously, killing them shouldn't give you nothing (Just a VIP to hell) .

And shouldn't be tameable, these aren't pets, but, could be that their offsprings, follow you from far in a limited area in the place they born.

I love this idea and I hope I can add more to this one!!

    1. Bird sounds improve the natural ambience lacking in the minecraft overworld. Perhaps louder in the morning, quiet at night.

    2. Just like there are tropical fish variants in the ocean, there could be songbird variants on land.

    3. Perhaps one really great use for songbirds is predicting weather. To my knowledge there's no way to track rain and thunderstorms in minecraft. Songbirds could escape into tree leaves and go quiet when a storm is approaching.

    4. Because they live or spawn in trees, as you cut them down, you don't see them anymore. You'll also see them escaping during forest fires.

But one bird that I personally love and I'd argue has a very Minecraft feel are ravens and/or crows. Crows and ravens are extremely intelligent. They enjoy puzzles, hold grudges, memorize faces, babysit wolf pups and even trade shiny trinkets with people. This means there are a lot of opportunities for what they could bring to Minecraft.

    1. An early game trading and/or item stealing system could work.

But one thing I haven't seen done is

    2. a mob with the ability to press buttons and pull levers!

This could offer a world of new ideas for technical Minecraft players, or builders who would like the look of these eerie black birds around their base or perched on their shoulder.

I think that Minecraft should add birds, because they will not only add to the game, but also make the Minecraft world more alive

Owls would be good for night ambience. Eagles could be a rare neutral mob that may attack zombies.

I read an earlier comment that suggested having them spawn like tropical fish, and I think that that is a great idea! Even if they just add, like, 6 shapes, 20 colours and 15 markings or something, that's still about 1,800 different combinations. Maybe you could also be able to tame them with seeds, where you can make them sit, follow, and harvest crops? I dunno, but that might be an interesting aspect.

Geese of swans could be cool. You could feed them bread or somwthing and they could be found in the plains biome.

I was thinking about kingfishers spawning near river biomes. I would also love e it if they could actually have a mechanic where they catch fish in the river!
