See netherite doesn't burn in lava, that's too op. But we know that anything that does not have carbon will never burn. It clearly states that netherite doesn't have any carbon. We know that diamond is a form of carbon and is super strong due to its (quadratic) carbon tubes. Even though netherite is strong, we still don't have it at its full potential. We can add carbonized n decarbonized ancient debris, mixing it will gold will form decarbonized n carbonized netherite. Here's the main idea,
Carbonized netherite - burns in lava but is way more stronger than normal netherite
Decarbonized netherite(or normal netherite) - doesn't burn in lava but is weaker than carbonized netherite (or normal stats)
1.17 hasn't come out yet n we can still add this to 1.16.6 update
p.s. u can also add something like when carbonized netherite burns it turns into decarbonized netherite
