I've seen other posts about adding Copper Tools and Armor to the game, but none really had an interesting reason to add another mid-tier gear in the game.
That's why I've come up with an idea: when making copper gear, it starts in its standard form (unoxidized/orange) and it will be in between Stone and Iron gear as strength, but as time passes and you have it equipped (for it to oxidize you'll need copper armor in armor slot and tools in the hotbar) it will oxidize and become stronger; my idea was for it to have a total of 3 phases:
- Unoxidized: Stronger than Stone but weaker than Iron.
- Half Oxidized: Same strength as Iron (can also be 2 phases like the actual blocks, one being slightly weaker than iron, the other slightly stronger).
- Fully Oxidized: Stronger than Iron but Weaker than Diamond.
The oxidation process, as mentioned above, will require the gear to be equipped/used, and it will become stronger doing so. This mechanic will benefit gameplay in many aspects:
1- If the player doesn't have Iron, Copper gear will still be a better alternative than Stone gear and tools.
2- If the player does have Iron gear, Copper gear will still be a good idea to craft since with time it will become stronger than Iron.
3- The oxidation process requires the player to equip/use the gear and thus to consume the durability, forcing the player to start using the anvil before enchanting tools to repair said gear and prevent losing the Oxidation upgrades.
