With the new Caves and Cliffs Update there will be and increased interest underground. While maps are fine for the surface, it would be nice to be able to map out the underground. With the increase of underground bases and activities, many players would want to map out under the surface. I would imagine this as having some sort of slider on the side of the cartography table were you could adjust the y value of a map, while the default would be the world height (320 for 1.17). For example, if you set the y value for y 30, it would mostly show up get because of the stone that is there. In any caves or any hand dug pockets, it would just show the material on top level like any other map. A added benefit of this would be that you could stack map art on top of each other by setting a different y value per map. This would also help you find other underground features easier like the new cave biomes, mineshafts, dungeons, geodes, and more. This would also make maps of the nether possible because if you set you y level below the bedrock, you could see the nether biomes and other nether structures instead on just grey bedrock. I feel this would be a helpful addition in many ways and want your opinion on it! Share any feed back in the comments.
