    I think Lava has a temperature of at least 2500°C. Obsidian melts at 2000°C, and Iron at around 1500°C.

    Netherite is the Tungsten of Minecraft, being entirely unmeltable. Its unmeltable property is why it is so sought after. To take that unique property away from Netherite would make it less unique.

    If we want realism, then Iron Buckets should be incapable of holding Lava, requiring instead to make a Netherite Bucket from three scrap. This would force the game to become more linear, now making it much harder, or impossible to get to the Nether before obtaining diamond, impossible if it weren't for obsidian in blacksmiths and ruined portal chests. No one, not even I, would like that.
