It functions as if it is a teleport command that moves the player with ~ ~ ~/^ ^ ^ local coordinates, but instead of teleporting directly to the location, it moves the player until it reaches the location. The speed at which the player moves from its starting point to the target can be modified.
This is the command syntax that I would suggest:
/move <target> <destination (exclusive to ~ ~ ~/^ ^ ^)> <speed>
Ex. /move @p ~ ~10 ~ 3 will move a player 10 blocks above with a speed of 3.
Ex 2. /move @p ^ ^ ^3 5 will move a player 3 blocks in front of them with a speed of 5.
With this command, mapmakers will be able to move players without having to take extra steps of preventing any clipping through blocks, and will additionally make movements with commands look more fluid than continuously using /teleport in a loop.
