This suggestion revolves around a new Table Saw block. At a minimum this would be the wood equivalent to the Stonecutter, but that wouldn't be too exciting on its own so included here are additions
Base idea - Table Saw
Crafting Recipe - 1 iron ingot and three plank blocks arranged like the stonecutter recipe. Interface identical to the stonecutter, but uses wood.
New Blocks
The table saw can craft planks, slabs and steps but also the following which are decorative unless otherwise noted:
- Wood Specific Ladders
- Ramp blocks
- Vertical slabs
- Fake Barrel / Chest (Same visual model as existing items, but no interactivity).
Other blocks are possible, most of which will have no crafting table recipe equivalent to keep that block from being overworked more than it is. I submit Vertical slabs here because the recipe for them hasn't been cleanly possible due to overlap with doors.
Carpenter Job
The carpenter would have trades similar to the mason, buying/selling seedlings as well. For extra realism have him buy the woods not available in his own biome and sell the wood of his biome. Carpenters wouldn't spawn in desert villages under this setup until the Desert Update brings Palm Trees.
Wood Matters
As part of this mini update, change the chest recipe so that if only one wood type is used to make the chest then the chest will be made of that wood. Same with barrels. Chests made of mixed wood types would use the existing models. Existing barrels would be spruce barrels.
