Uncut Gems in Minecraft!

The unrefined copper, iron, and gold are great and add cool new blocks and textures to the game. It would only be a logical step, then, to maybe apply the same thing to Diamonds and Emeralds. This way there could be alternate textures to these blocks! How neat. They could be refined in a stonecutter for the cost of no fuel so I dont think this would be too gamechanging... The only downside is that it further worsens the issue of inventory clutter...

  This can maybe be best as a creative item, as the deepslate emerald, copper and coal.

  My only discontentment is that we don't have anything to use them for, yet. In that sense, I have a similar idea where smelting ore blocks in a furnace should yield a special product, rather than a single redstone dust for a redstone ore block, for example.

  Lack of purpose aside, I'd say that cutting netherquartz, amethyst, and lapis lazuili would also work.
