Pet Carrier Bag

Pets and going upwards is a terrible mix, Your cats and dogs sometimes don't teleport to you when you go up too high, transporting animals long distances is a frustrating pain if the game doesn't load quickly enough. Some different types of animals find unique and amazing ways to kill themselves along the journey.

I propose an animal carry bag, any pet and small animal can be put into a carry bag, which then sits in your inventory. Pet Carrier bags when empty can stack up too 16, but when filled do not stack, they cannot be put into chests or other places when the carrier bag is filled. 

Craft with leather and string?

Animals that you can put in a pet carrier:

Dogs, Cats, Foxes, Bees, Parrots, Rabbits, and other small creatures.

    portability in a container is at this point a normal feature of small aquatic mobs, via the bucket. I think the same should be possible for small land-based mobs.

    Transporting animals to your base to put them into their forever homes is such a tedious task. It's fine to be forced to do it a couple times, but it would be nice if we could skip it for at least some of the mobs. And I think portability like that would make dogs a lot more appealing as travel and combat companions, and put them on par with the Axolotl, which I think they deserve.

    My suggestion for the kind of container would be a basket, so that players can be sure their pets can breathe, and won't get squished by all the other stuff in the inventory. Crafted from a U or O-shape of wheat, sticks, vines, whatever - the devs will figure it out. Should be something equally ubiquitous as the iron you need for buckets. 

    If you wanna make it extra cool: make the basket a block in addition to a tool, so you can place it and see the pet inside. Give it a lid, openable by right click, which enables pets to hop in & out as they please. Right clicking the basket with a mob's favorite food in hand will place the food in the basket and attract the corresponding mob.

    If you wanna make it extra useful: let it contain and transport the baby versions of mobs whose adults are too big to fit: pigs, sheep, cows, maybe even horses

    Maybe this could be a way to transport the Allay, too. Place the basket on top of a note block and ring it

    I've always wanted something like this. I have terrible luck finding rabbits, so when I do I usually have to transport them a long distance (think through at least four biomes, one of which is mountain.
