As we know it, the 1.7 caves and cliffs update includes the amethyst geodes features. The amethyst harvested from the geodes has limited uses, being that it so far only crafts into spyglass and tinted glass. Tinted glass would be useful for certain auto-farming builds, but not everyone auto-farms. So I came up with a proposal to have amethyst be useful defensively.
Amethyst should be something that could be applied to armor and shields. Amethyst would be coated over the armor and give dazzling aesthetics to the appearance of armor.
Applying to armor and shields is done by surrounding preferred armor/shield with shards.
Functionality:
Amethyst would work as a Thorns enchant on the armor. However, it is quite different in how it works compared to thorns enchantment.
-Armor does not lose durability from thorns inflicted on mobs through amethyst coating.
-Amethyst coating has durability within 3 stages:
The 3rd stage means the coating has above 2/3 of durability and applies Thorns III to armor.
The 2nd stage has between 1/3 and 2/3 and thorns III is reduced to thorns II.
The 1st stage means has less than 1/3 durability and applies Thorns I.
-Amethyst coating will break once its durability is used up, but armor won't. That would give a purpose for players to want to continue farming amethyst crystals as amethyst is a renewable source.
LIkewise, amethyst can be applied to shields and melee damage blocked by a shield will cause thorns and hurt the attacker.
