As of right now Endermen are the only organic humanoid species in Minecraft that don’t have a zombie variant. Zenders seek to fill this niche, and further expand the lore of Minecraft's zombie virus.
In the Overworld Zenders replace Endermen spawns, and any Endermen brought to the Overworld zombify like Piglins. Zenders don't spawn in the Nether or the End.
Zenders act like Endermen except they can’t pick up blocks(reducing Endermen griefing), teleport less often, and can give the player blindness(expanding on the theme of eyes). Zenders are immune to the sun- but not to fire/lava, get hurt by water/rain, and take more damage from Smite. Zenders are neutral like Endermen and will become hostile when their face is looked at. If a player looks at a Zender’s body for too long the Zender will afflict the player with blindness for two seconds and teleport away but not become hostile. Hostile Zenders teleport less frequently than Endermen but like before if a player looks at them too long Zenders will apply blindness and teleport almost directly behind the player before resuming attacks.
Zenders drop ender pearls(at a reduced rate) and rotten flesh alongside a new item called a lidded eye. Lidded eyes are a potion ingredient that result in a blindness potion, which gives the players access to the effect in combat. (Blindness should be expanded to assist this, like making it so mobs can’t hit or target players while afflicted among other pvp things, but that’s for a different post.)
