Imagine enchanting your boots with soul speed but having to place soul sand in order for it to work. With soul sand dust you will no longer have to place ugly soul sand block paths all over your world in order to get place to place at a faster rate. Soul sand dust will work by first making a pathway using your shovel and then enhancing the pathway using soul sand dust. When you enhance the pathway a particle affect will then appear. At this point you may be asking yourself “how will you be able to identify which path blocks have been enhanced and ones that still need enhancing?”, and to this I will say there are two options: You can use a map and the enhanced path blocks will appear a different color from the original path blocks, or you can simply tell which path blocks are enhanced using the soul speed enchantment. If speed is increased then the block is enhanced. Another use for soul sand dust could be in carpets. The reason for soul sand dust is so that the player can choose if they would like to enhance blocks like carpet or ladders or path blocks. Now that I think of it soul sand carpet so you can have a layer of soul sand without the physical soul sand block. Kind of like a pressure plate but made out of soul sand.
