    It would have been better and logic if it took 9x longer and the equivalent of 9 items in fuel use. Without it, it's too OP.

    i agree, if it takes 9 to make the raw block or the smelted one, why can't you smelt the raw block itself?

    I think it should take only 8 furnace actions instead of 9, similar to how a block of coal smelts 10 thinks instead of 9

    yeah, maybe slower than smelting an ingot, so as to make it less OP

    It would be nice to see this in kelp blocks too. (meaning adding kelp blocks to the dried ones)

    Neat idea, but perhaps for Balance, make a "Block of Coal" be a mandatory Fuel Requirement
