Furnace is considered one of the less useful blocks compared with the smoker and the blast furnace, due to the smelting speeds. However, I bring a simple suggestion of increasing the smelting speeds for the furnace and which recipes are affected by the increased speeds, to be able to contend with other furnaces, and be a great addition towards the cave and cliffs update. The recipes which would have increased smelting speeds within the furnace are:
- Red/Basic Sand to Glass
- Cobblestone to Stone
- Stone to Smooth Stone
- Sandstone to Smooth Sandstone
- Red Sandstone to Smooth Red Sandstone
- Block of Quartz to Smooth Quartz
- Clay Ball to Brick
- Netherrack to Nether Brick
- Nether Bricks to Cracked Nether Bricks
- Clay to Terracotta
- Stone Bricks to Cracked Stone Bricks
- Dyed Terracotta to Glazed Terracotta (corresponding to which dye used)
- Cactus to Green Dye
- Log/Stripped Log/Wood/Stripped Wood to Charcoal
- Wet Sponge to Sponge
- Sea Pickle to Lime Dye
These recipes are restricted to only the basic furnace, so I would suggest increase smelting speeds similar to smoker with food etc to make it more of a useful block within the Caves and Cliffs Update. For example, due to the increased clay in lush biomes, the furnace change for certain recipes that are restricted to only that block would make a great change overall.
(However, a new type of furnace can also be introduced instead of making changes to the basic one instead, encouraging upgrades to get these changes similar BF and S)
