Stopping Beacons without de-activating them

Currently, when you place a solid block above a beacon the beacon completely disappears. It would be more useful if it cut off the beacon beam at the point where you place the block instead of making it disappear. This would be useful for making things like Lazer gates and other cool things where you don't want the beam to go above a certain point.
