The trident and the crossbow are both very cool weapons that exist in minecraft. On the surface, they contend very well with the sword and bow. A trident has the same base damage as a netherite sword and has ranged capabilities, and the crossbow trades higher damage for a lower fire rate. As soon as the players gains access to enchantments though, they fall out, as they simply can't keep up with the damage output of sharpness V swords and power V bows.
What I would like to propose here is a change to the available enchantments to the trident and crossbow. The Crossbow should have access to Power and Infinity to keep it's efficiency and damage on-par with that of the bow. Punch and flame should probably be kept exclusive to bows, as to prevent crossbows from being too OP.
The trident should gain access to Sharpness to keep it's damage close to that of swords. It should not have sweeping edge and fire aspect, as they don't fit in with it's aquatic "piercing weapon" design. Looting and knockback should be considered, but aren't really that important compared to sharpness. The trident, however, would be insanely powerful if it could do as much damage as a netherite sword AND have ranged potential, so to balance it's ranged capabilities, limit the max sharpness level on tridents to lvl 3. These changes would make these awesome weapons viable in PvP and PvE.
I know this is unrelated, but consider making tridents repairable with prismarine. There is no reason why they shouldn't be.
