Basically, if you place a light source brighter than glow lichen, or greater than the light value where mobs can spawn, any glow lichen with sufficient light will grow on a random tick, spreading until the light level is too low.
This would mean that if you light up a cave with torches it will spread the lichen along the walls and ceiling, allowing you to remove them at some point and still have the cave be mob-proofed - as well as alerting you visually to any gaps in your light coverage, as well as giving a bit of extra weight to what kind of lighting you use, rather than just spamming torches.
Having the required light level exceed what glow lichen itself emits would have the benefit of not having it spread out of control in unexplored but loaded caves, or ruin the darkness in caves naturally, but would allow the player to fully light a cave by strategically cultivating it with torch placement, as well as probably create some neat interplay with natural lava that spawns near glow lichen, allowing you to find larger patches growing near the lava, perhaps making caves feel a little more alive, and the lichen itself seem a little more prolific near natural sources of 'heat' and light.
