In any video game, all of your failures should feel like they're your fault. I should think that I can't find a nether fortress because I'm too reckless. Instead, I spend countless hours scouring the nether for a fortress. It's discouraging when you die after a 1 and a half hour nether excursion. These types of incidents prompt me to quit survival. I always dread going to the nether because of luck-based gameplay. It's unhealthy to play Minecraft for incredibly long amounts of time, and the nether is only stacking hours. My suggestion is that nether fortresses should be guaranteed to spawn within a radius of your portal, maybe 500-700 meters. This doesn't mean the game has to be easier. You can make the fortress more deadly. Here are some ideas for starters! Nether fortresses can have random holes, requiring you to tread more carefully. They can increase spawn rates of wither skeletons, and some can even spawn with armor! Make wither skeletons become aggravated when you open a chest! Overall, I just want an easier time finding the fortress, not raiding it. The nether is considered "Minecraft Hell" for a reason, and it needs to stay that way.
