Losing so much from villagers a core aspect of the game is such a price when you just want to stop creepers and Ghasts breaking your stuff  and takes far to much out the game..

fine tuned control over which mobs can "grief" would make vanilla slightly more appealing than it is. As it stands now, I almost never remain in a vanilla world. Opting to add mods to resolve most of my --grievances with mob griefing.

And separate destruction/picking up blocks from picking up items.

Per mob may be a bit too much.  However, I believe making separate categories for mobGriefing rules is needed.  I propose 2-3 categories; hostile/destructive mobs (endermen, creeper, ghast, etc...), neutral/friendly mobs (Villagers, Sheep, Piglin, Allay), wild animals (Foxes, Wolfs, Stray Cats, etc...)

The following behaviors are currently disabled by mobGriefing and should be considered for a "non-hostile" category:

    • Villagers do not farm crops or pick up crops/seeds for planting (prevents automation of food farms)

    • Villagers do not pick up food items (makes repopulating/creating villages more difficult)

    • Sheep do not eat grass and cannot regrow their wool coat (makes it so players are forced to manually breed and kill sheep for wool)
    • Foxes do not pick sweet berries (non-destructive, berries regrow naturally)

    • Piglins do not pick up gold items (prevents bartering automation)

    • Allay do not collect items for players when given an example item (disables useful item collection behavior and prevents the advancement “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”)

Other incongruities; while mobGriefing is set to false the following destructive actions are still allowed:

    • Stray Cats still kill Rabbits

    • Wolfs still kill Sheep

    • Ocelots and Foxed still kill Chicken

These behaviors may also be useful for farming and should perhaps be considered for a third mobGriefing rule specifically for wild, carnivorous, passive mobs which kill other passive mobs.
