The identity potion should require an ingredient that has been exposed to the player you seek to mimic that way it can tell how the user should look and a likewise requirement should exist for any other shapeshifting potions.

I also think that it should come with these features:                                                                                    If you heat water in a cauldron it should produce wisps of steam and if you heat it for too long in a confined space it should fill said space with a fog that dissipates after the source of steam runs out and that if you heat a water filled cauldron long enough it should run dry. It could be like having a ritual that creates fog and you could even replace the water with a potion mixture that when thrown in a bottle produces a similar effect that creates a more cohesive cloud that lasts for a short time regardless of location and when released from a cauldron that is heated long enough can grow to effect a larger area.

On a more minor note I think in addition to producing suspicious brews one should be able to make normal soups and when using enough safe general cooking ingredients even a hearty stew that can vary in quality with cooking time and ingredients.
