To just communicate the way of thinking, Imagine if you eat nether foods your body becomes more heat resistant. Have some slowly changing stat like luck in terraria but it changes, not like hunger or status effects. You can modify your stats to deal with different environments. This way players can stay safer from each other and it changes multiplayer game balance completely. Also motivates thinking about food choice more. Just an idea I thought would work well for Minecraft and isn't too much like other games. It would also make the world more dynamic so you can't just walk 10 million blocks with nothing in your inventory just because you feel like it.
