Imagine this: You're wandering about the Overworld, happily enjoying the beautiful sights. Suddenly, up ahead you see a dark forest shrouded in an unearthly fog. It is full of dark trees, shaped like skeletal hands reaching up to the sky. As you explore it, you catch sight of broken crypts and cracked tombs. When night falls, the undead begin to spawn around you, rising from their graves.
The Blackthorn forest is a biome designed to add a bit more fantasy and horror to the game. Spawning at about the same rate as jungles, it would be one of the more uncommon biomes generated.
This biome is designed to be one of the most dangerous ones in the game. Undead mobs would spawn at a higher rate than other natural monsters at night, and passive mobs are especially rare. It is supposed to be a biome you avoid until you get diamond gear.
The forest would be composed of blackthorn trees, dead-looking trees which give a nearly black wood, with the occasional oak thrown in for variety. The color of leaves there would be a more subdued color, like that of taigas. However, blackthorns do not have much in the way of leaves, making the biome more open to the sky than most forests
The blackthorn forest has a perpetual fog in the air (Similar to the Basalt Delta) to add to the spooky feel. When exploring, you may run across small cobblestone structures in the shape of tombs. There is also a rare chance for haunted crypts, structures with a miniboss and rare loot. Please tell me what you think!
