Stair placement interactions with shift key.

I was just playing around and using some stairs to create letters on the ground. I noticed that when I was placing them, they made absolutely no sense! I tried to make a 2x2 block space into an array of stairs that wrapped around the edges, and then proceeded to put some one block south of that 2x2 square, and it messed everything up! For the life of me, I just could not have the stairs work in my favor. As a proposition, I suggest that any stair placed normally behave as they currently are, but when placing down stairs while crouched, they should place down in the direction you face and completely disregard other surrounding stairs. I'm sure we all have had this problem but nobody's voiced it until now.
