I get that the update is trying to make caving better than strip mining, but staying at a constant level in caves is just not feasible especially in java requiring the debug screen to be open to monitor depth. So when not caving, I am finding that strip mining yields little to no results for both iron and Lapis, ( haven't tried others).
Wherein I go at least a few hundred blocks finding absolutely No lapis or VERY little iron veins, and even when caving I find that acquiring Iron in the amounts found pre-snapshots seems to be very difficult.
That being said, I also think that when on the right depth, you should be able to find much more of a certain ore than before (as a "reward" for "doing it correctly), rather than only being able to acquire the "same amount" as is my belief is the goal of the new ore distribution.
