Electric weapons

When i saw Minecon live and the lightning rod was revealed i thought of a new enchantment type thing. Except you wouldnt use an enchantment table but the lightning rod, and the way it would work is you would put your weapon of choice E.g. an iron sword, on the lightning rod, and when a lightning bolt hits the lightning rod an electricity enchantment would be applied. This would affect mobs with lightning affects, like charging a creeper or turning a villager into a witch. This could also be an effect that adds a status effect to mobs that cause bolts of electricity to shoot onto other mobs causing 2-3 hearts of damage. these are two possibilities with weapons i thought of but they're are other things it could do like if you put a lightning rod in water lightning could electrify the water making it cause damage to enemies and maybe the new status effect i suggested.
