Copper is nearly useless and you have no reason to stack them unless if you are a builder, so I thought about copper plates.
Copper plates are crafted with 6 copper ingot, like a trap door. Use the smithing table to add copper plates to your armor, armor pieces with copper plates on will give you extra protection and take no durability damage until the copper plate breaks. For the balance, copper plates will have a very low durability (about 20 uses) and will not be effected from mending and unbreaking so you will have to stack lots of copper and put them on your armor again.
