A combat team could consist of any number or combination of dogs, cats, parrots, snow golems, and iron golems. The pets would still start off as they do now, except they would each be upgradeable. They would have individual armors that would provide them with a small inventory you can fill. The inventory is different and based upon the pet's specialty.
You would be able to upgrade mobs by placing specific items in their inventory. (i.e: giving a snow golem a block would let them throw the block rather than snowballs, the damage being determined by the block's hardness.)
Dogs would do quick agile attacks, as well as pick up items. Cats would deal in potions and enchantments, acting as a combination of the enchanter and witch. Parrots would distribute items from dogs to the team. Snow golems could be given different items for different projectiles, such as a sea lantern for a guardian beam. Iron golems would deal with powerful, but slower attacks, specifically targeting stronger mobs like ravagers.
The team would work together and support each other. Their main goal should be to make sure the least amount of damage comes to the team. They would not feel like they are doing all the work, you would need to help. They also encourage exploring, both to acquire the pets and because they offer protection. I believe if this were implemented, there would have to be some harder fights that warrant a team. Perhaps the woodland mansion could be a good inspiration.
