The most influential update was 1.8 and the biggest thing it did was the effect it had on servers. The new commands, redstone, and items like the armor stand allowed servers to do things many people couldn't imagine. Servers like Mineplex and Hypixel were able to code and create new mini games that were never possible before this update, and thanks to them it allowed players to really connect without having to have their own server, and could play for free. But unfortunately servers are very limited to what they can do with this old MC version.
We know that Jeb is currently working on a new combat system, and frankly I think that is great, but it will never have the same feel as 1.8. I'm suggesting an overhaul of 1.8, or a way to update to the new 1.16 versions, but keep the old style of 1.8. People aren't playing on servers with the new versions because pvp isn't the same, and mini games won't be the same without it, even with the new combat update. The new update could have things like bug fixes, item dupes and block glitches could be patched. The new commands, and redstone could be added, allowing for server developers to really have a fun time and create something awesome. Servers are very limited to what the old MC versions are capable of, and plugins can only do so much. If we get a "1.8 V2" update then burnt out ideas such as Factions, MC Prisons, and other branches of Minecraft could come back and make it better than ever.
