Sunken ships should have a book with the captain's log...

I think that in chests, there should be book keeping the captain's log, it should say something like this: "Day 1, I and my craw start our adventure across the sea to do this and find 'that' " that sort of thing, this would make more sense of how the ship sank, why it was across the sea, and give more lore of the ships. At the beginning or close to the end of the log, there should be a mention of the 'heart of the Sea' this would also give lore and why they are trying to find it because they have a map that leads to the heart of the Sea.

    How about some logs are written in a coherent language, depending upon the translation of the game, and then there could be other logs that are in a villager language (humming and grunting) and another type could be in the odd enchantment table language. This would allow for more, varied lore aspects for various worlds and it could signify what type of loot is found within the sunken ship; example: sunken ships with coherent logs could have maps and paper, sunken ships with villager language could have ores like emeralds and iron nuggets, and sunken ships with the enchantment table language could have enchanted books/armor and lapis.

    Just a thought, love the captain's log idea!

    I love the idea, but believe they should be rare.  Generally, it would generate instead as leather and 1-3 paper.  Sometimes, it would be a book.  Sometimes, the book would have illegible or unicode writing, which may have some form of relevance, though maybe not.  Once in a while, you may find partial written books.  There should be variants, or randomly generated pages that may or may not appear.  It should take several worlds to complete a set.   I say this because it shouldn't just be the same thing written over and over again, because that would get boring fast.
