So, I know it's a bit late into 1.17's development cycle to request this type of fix, so it would have to come later on down the road, but I was sitting here watching some videos on another video game's development process from decades ago and got to thinking: That's the fix for Minecraft's minecart system.
To summarize:
Sonic the Hedgehog. His original games were built around a pinball physics engine... When he goes into a ball down a slope, he gains speed to shoot himself up the next hill. Minecarts in Minecraft don't do that... You go down 20 blocks, and you're lucky if it climbs 10.
So, why not implement that (a pinball physics engine) into the minecarts, Mojang? Powered rails could be your version of the spindash. The ramifications for overhauling minecarts makes transporting goods via rail better, rollercoasters in Minecraft would ACTUALLY work (a pinball physics engine would allow for them to do loop de loops as long as you implement placing rails upside down on the bottoms of blocks)... The list goes on and on, and a bonus to this is you probably wouldn't have to do much programming for such a thing, as there are loads of opensource code for virtual pinball machines.
