This oxidation I am suggesting is different to the one that is currently implemented. The current copper oxidation that we have in the game is copper carbonate, represented by chemical symbol CuCO3, the one that results from prolonged exposure to oxygen and moisture.
I'm suggesting that we also add a copper oxide, a chemical reaction occurring when copper is exposed to heat. Represented by chemical symbol CuO, copper becomes BLACK when lit on fire or exposed to great heat.
In the game, this would take the form of a shiny, smooth metallic black block with all the copper variants. Copper oxide can be achieved either by lighting copper blocks on fire or cooking the blocks in a furnace or blast furnace. These black blocks would be a great alternative to blackstone, since blackstone has a harsh and noisy texture. The copper oxide texture wouldn't be noisy or harsh at all. To my knowledge this reaction is much quicker than copper carbonate, so there's no need for intermittent gradual change blocks, it would just be the fully black block.
