    It would be good but, instead of having 2 or 3 map types for different Y levels, I suggest having one map that fades when the Y level changes and re-render the new graphic based on the new depth.
    If you want to lock the Y level of the map, you can do it by combining it with honeycomb (used as a wax to block copper oxidation).
    There you have it, now you can have as many maps for every Y level as you want.

    I definitely agree that the map should fade between levels. I would add that this map should only display places you had direct line of sight to (whether you had actually faced that direction at the time or not).
