BACKGROUND:
There are different cut variations for building blocks such as stone, sandstone, andesite, and etc. - like polished, bricks, and chiseled versions. But then, there are also those that are exclusive to one type only, such as the column cut for quartz blocks and tile cut for the upcoming grimstone blocks. On a similar note, there are different style variations for the doors and trapdoors. Each wood type has an exclusive look to it that isn't exactly the same as another. My suggestion here is what if we could have all those variations in the different stone and wood types (respectively)?
SUGGESTION:
What if all cut types are available for any of such category of blocks. This would mean column cut variants for stone, sandstone, and etc.; brick cut for sandstone; the new tile cut for all; and so on and so forth. Similarly, we could have spruce-style trapdoors for other wood types and so on and so forth. I just think that this is a feature that should already be incorporated in the game, and something that could make the builder experience more fun and expanded for Vanilla Minecraft.
An approach I think would work best for the wood part, is if those styles are the ones that are separate items - i.e. they would have different names for what "design" they are. And the wood type you use will be the one that gives a color variation to the style. Maybe this could be a perfect opportunity for a crafting block dedicated to wood?
I hope that this could be considered :D
