self repopulation of villages

Villages repopulate after a certain amount of time when abandoned or villagers are killed. It’s really hard to find nether fortresses and kill blazes to get the rods and then make a potion to find a zombie villager. It would be really helpful for villagers to repopulate themselves and maybe the player could put simple resources such as apples and potatoes and basic foods and weapons in the villages chests.
