    I feel like players which venture that deep are probably already heavily geared, so masses of mobs would be more of annoyance than an actual threat. Furthermore, making it barren and lifeless adds to the scary look and feel of the deep dark.

    Still, I think the Grimstone part of the new caves could definitely profit from an additional end-game challenge. Explosive blocks maybe? They'd explode when mined, thus luring Wardens towards the player and making terraforming at those depths unsafe.
