So as of now 21w06a (and 07) was the snapshot that changed the caves entirely. Not only that but both world height was increased and the bedrock layer has been lowered. There is a slight problem with that as of old chunks loaded. As of Y-64 is where bedrock will now be the bedrock at Y5-1 will still be there and when unintentionally entering old generated chunks from new chunks, it will be completely void. Now some saying is that they will put bedrock surrounding the void block from new and old chunk. This doesn’t make it look natural. What I think should happen is the New cave generation should generate below bedrock on old chunks and remove bedrock.
There has been something like this but simular to it and that is the nether in the Legacy Console edition when transfere to bigger size world or on Bedrock or Java. The bedrock gets removed and new chunks generate. The bedrock will also be moved furhter. This can happen with the new Cave generations on old chunks. Not only it would save time player exploring further to get new caves (Other than lush) it will also remove the viod gap when new chunks meet with old chunks.
