Drowned is usually the only thing you're fighting underwater, which gets boring quickly. There's no variety in hostile underwater mobs. That, and Bane of Arthropods is the least useful weapon enchant as it only covers a small niche of weak enemies. And so, crab enemies! This will also make Impaling and Axolotls more useful.
The Armored crab walks underwater, but will never try to swim upwards like Drowned. This prevents it from being an annoying hostile mob that constantly chases you. It will still try to chase you by walking on blocks, and will melee you if you're close enough. It has a high armor stat, and will take a good amount of hits to kill. Poison is effective in lowering its health, ignoring the armor stat. It can breathe above water, but is usually not found there, and prefers staying underwater.
I recommend that it drops iron ingots or nuggets since it's armored. Currently, you farm iron from killing iron golems, but this'll give a nice alternative. You can also make it drop clay or other 1.17 blocks to make it renewable.
It should spawn in underwater caves as they're currently empty and lifeless. That, and underwater caves are too safe; it's easy to create air pockets and mine resources safely. It can also spawn in deeper ocean biomes.
