Way to make alternate stone types more avoidable but easier to obtain

I think that a way to make stone variations like diorite, granite and andesite less obnoxious when mining but easier to obtain in large quantities would be to make them not generate at all EXEPT in semi-rare, but relatively big patches that are connected to caves, similar to Terraria's granite and marble generation. It would make it easier to obtain these block types, but when you don't want them, you can easily just mine out of the way and continue on with your mining.
